The God Who Saves | Jonah 1:17

Pastor Anton Brown - 5/29/2022

Sermon Outline:

Big Idea: Though we run from Him, in His mercy, God saves His people.

  1. He is sovereign over His creation.
  2. He saves through judgment.
  3. Salvation is confirmed in the Son’s resurrection.

Bible Fellowship Group Study Questions:

  1. God is sovereign over all His creation.  How is that evident in this passage?  What are some examples of God's sovereignty (see Exodus 14:21-22, Joshua 10:12-13, & 1 Kings 17:18-24)?  How does this impact a believer's life?
  2. What are the implications of the fish swallowing Jonah? What are some examples of being saved through judgment (see Numbers 21:4-9 & 1 Corinthians 1:18-25)?  How might someone cultivate a lifestyle of repentance?
  3. What did Pastor Anton say were the two aspects of the Sign of Jonah?  Of what does Jesus's resurrection assure us?  Must we believe in the resurrection of Jesus to be a Christian (see 1 Cor 15:14-19)?
