Sermon Outline:

Big Idea: Through obedience, the Word of God goes forth to accomplish its purpose.

1. God's call is irrevocable (1-3a).
2. A second chance to make the message known (4).
3. A second chance to respond in faith and repentance (5).

Bible Fellowship Group Study Questions:

1. Read Romans 11:29, John 10:28-29, and Romans 3:3-4. Once you are saved, can you lose your salvation? How does Jonah 3:1-3 relate to this?
2. Jonah got a second chance to comply with God’s mercy and return to what God had called him to do. When you sin you can repent of sin and get right back up and follow Christ. Read 2 Corinthians 7:10 and consider what true repentance looks like. To guide the conversation, leaders may refer to the excerpt from Darby Strickland, “How to Discern True Repentance When Serious Sin Has Occurred,” Journal of Biblical Counseling 34, no. 3 (2020): 30–47.
3. God reveals Himself through nature (Romans 1:18-20) and through His Word. In a way, Nineveh got its second chance through Jonah’s obedience to make God’s Word known to them. We got a second chance when we heard the Gospel. How can we make the God of Second Chances known to those around us?
