Sermon Outline:Three_Trees_Diagram.png

Big Idea: Our sovereign God orchestrates our lives in such a way as to reveal our sinful hearts for our good and His glory.

  1. Sin is exposed in our disagreement with God (1-5)
  2. Sin is exposed in our disappointment with God (6-8)
  3. We find peace in the compassion of God (9-10)

Bible Fellowship Group Study Questions

  1. Read Luke 6:43-45.
  2. Look at the Three Trees Diagram. Consider one or more situations going on in your life. #1 "Heat" represents those situations. Write them down.
  3. How are you reacting to those situations? Write your reactions down next to each situation. Are your reactions based on your desires or God's desires? Look at #3, 4, & 5. Reactions to situations not aligned with God's Word must be considered in light of the Gospel. When we find reactions not aligned with the Gospel, repentance and trust in the Gospel is the first step to take.  What are your first steps for each situation you have written down?
  4. After repentance, the next step (#4) is to identify what the Scriptures say about the situation and how we should respond. Who is God and what does He say in Christ about each situation? This will lead you to understand what the Scripture says you should want and believe (#5).  Write those things down next to each situation. Commit yourself to following what God says.
  5. Revisit these situations one to two times per week and reflect on them in light of the diagram so that you can begin to see the good fruit (#6) growing from a root renewed in the Gospel (#5).
