Holy Week- Tuesday: Matthew 24:42-44

Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. Matthew 24:42–44 (ESV)
The Pompeii exhibit is haunting. Molds of people caught in volcanic ash from Mount Vesuvius and evidence of fresh fruit and animals in the marketplace depict a day abruptly interrupted by a life-altering event. Matthew warns that the most extraordinary life-altering event is still to come. One ordinary day, Christ’s return will interrupt our ordinary lives. Jesus exhorts us to remain awake: faithful, undistracted, and obedient to His Word. Like those at Pompeii, many will be unprepared, and Christ’s return will be a catastrophe. Yet, for those who believe and obey Jesus’ warning, the day will bring life-altering and eternal joy.
