Endure to the End | Hebrews 10:19-39

Have you ever wanted to give up when the road got steep?

The book of Hebrews was written to people just like that—followers of Jesus who were weary, discouraged, and wondering if the struggle was still worth it. They weren’t necessarily rejecting Christ outright. But they were loosening their grip. Drifting. Fading. The writer doesn’t scold them with guilt—he steadies them with grace. He reminds them of Christ, their Great High Priest, who opened the way to God with His own blood. Because of Jesus, they—and we—can draw near to God with confidence.

The passage in Hebrews 10:19–39 calls us to something urgent and essential: Draw near. Don’t drift. Look back to go forward.

To draw near is to press into the presence of God with a true heart and full assurance—not because we’re strong, but because Christ’s sacrifice has made us clean. It’s not a feeling we chase, but a reality we embrace. And in our noisy, distracted world, it’s easy to forget that drawing near is both a privilege and a discipline. Setting aside time daily to meet with the Lord in Scripture and prayer—without multitasking—reminds our hearts where home really is.

But the text doesn’t stop there. It warns us: Don’t drift from your confession of hope. Don’t abandon the community of faith. Don’t think you can go it alone. Drifting usually begins when we disconnect—when we stop gathering, stop encouraging, and stop stirring one another up to love and good works. Endurance is not a solo project. It’s something we do together, holding one another up as we hold fast to Christ.

And finally, Hebrews urges us to remember—specifically, to recall the early days of faith when joy and endurance went hand in hand. We’re told not just to remember with nostalgia, but to anchor our present obedience in God’s past faithfulness. The same grace that carried us before will carry us still. The better and abiding possession—Christ Himself—remains our hope.

So what do we do when everything in us tells us to quit? We draw near with confidence. We hold fast to the truth. We remember and run. Not alone. But together. Until faith becomes sight.
